Taking the 2013 Subaru BRZ for a Drive

Subaru has been teasing us with their rear-wheel drive concept for quite some time now. And while we can finally drool over the production model 2013 Subaru BRZ, we still have a few months to wait before we'll have any available for a test drive here at Southern Oregon Subaru Volvo Mitsubishi. Until then, we do have some more information to share with you - including details about how much it's going to cost.
Thanks to reviews from some lucky people over at Edmunds Inside Line and Car and Driver, we also have an idea about how well this new RWD coupe drives. And just we expected, it's nothing short of amazing.
The new 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine under the hood delivers 200 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. This isn't your typical engine from Subaru, as it was designed to sit far back and low in the car, and it is exactly what gives the BRZ its edge. Because of FA flat-four engine, the BRZ has a low center of gravity and weight is evenly distributed throughout the vehicle. And yes, you will definitely be impressed with an estimated 0-60 mph time of about six seconds and a top speed of 143 mph.
The engine can be mated to a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. According to early drive reviews, either choice will deliver an exceptional driving experience. Inside Line says of the manual transmission, "We have no trouble finding the gates and it moves with a mechanical feel that makes ripping gears in the BRZ more satisfying than any Subaru we've ever driven."1 As for the automatic? "It's shockingly good, too."2
It's not just an amazingly tuned engine, however. Step inside the Premium BRZ and you'll find a standard navigation system, Bluetooth, and satellite radio. An upgrade to the Limited trim level adds leather seats with Alcantara trim, auto climate control, heated seats, and push-button start.
The 30-mpg 2013 Subaru BRZ has a starting MSRP of about $25,000, and is set to arrive here at Southern Oregon Subaru Volvo Mitsubishi, 3103 Biddle Rd Medford, OR 97504 later in the spring.
