For the last year, Japanese automaker, Mitsubishi, has celebrated increased month-over-month sales. This month, they celebrate their 13th straight month of sales growth, even outpacing the sales averages of the U.S. auto industry as a whole. In fact, this fall marked the highest January-through-September sales for the company since 2008.
Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) sold 5,803 vehicles in September of this year, a 17-percent increase of the same month last year. As of September, total units sold in 2011 was 65,875 units, a 59.1-percent increase over year-to-date sales in September of 2010.
The boost in sales can be largely attributed to one model in particular, according to company President and CEO, Yoichi Yokozawa. He explains, "Consumers continue to be drawn to the styling, performance, and fuel efficiency of our Outlander Sport."1 That's right, the Outlander Sport sold an impressive 1,512 units in September alone.
This is just the beginning of sales growth, according to Yokozawa. He goes on to say that sales should continue to increase when they "launch a major advertising campaign later this month that focuses on next year's Outlander Sport production launch...and next month's sales launch of our all-electric Mitsubishi i."2
